A goal in the 71st minute by Freshman Tanner Runyan gave the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team a 1-0 win over Troy on Wednesday, October 15.
Sophpmore Josiah Hill sent a cross that went just out of the reach of Troy goalie Trevor Ward and ended up on the foot of Runyan for the the score. The Hornets out shot Troy 7-4 and Senior Jake Mitchell had two saves for his 11th shut out of the year.
"I want to congratulate the boys on a great victory today," head coach John Shaffer said. "Troy was very well organized and defended with numbers. We controlled a lot of the ball, but couldn't find room for many shots. In the end it was a sophomore and a freshman who combined to get the goal. The defenders and the goalie did a great job in the conditions of having clean touches and eliminating danger. This was a big win for the boys as it was the programs first ever win at Troy."
With the win, the Hornets improve to 12-5 (12-5 NTL). The team will be back in action on Saturday, October 18 as they host Liberty.
