The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team dropped their fourth consecutive game as they lost to Sayre 1-0 in double overtime on Monday, October 6.
Wellsboro and Sayre were even on shot attempts (10 each) and corner kicks (5 each), and Senior Jake Mitchell recorded three saves in goal, but Sayre was able to sneak their lone goal of the game past him in the 96th minute as Austin Rowe converted an assist by Nate Williams.
"This was a great game," said head coach John Shaffer. "Both teams really battled. We had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation and then difference in the game was Sayre converted their one clear chance and we didn't. I'm really proud of the boys. For the first time in 4 games we really played our game and the boys did it with 3 starters out with injuries and Freshman starting all over the pitch. If we can get healthy by playlets we could be very dangerous. Sayre will be a tough out in districts, very good team."
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 8-5 (8-5 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, October 8 as they host Towanda.
