The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team rebounded following their first loss of the season to defeat Northeast Bradford 3-0 on Wednesday, September 17.
"Tonights win was a complete team effort," said head coach John Shaffer. "With players out for a variety of reasons I was very impressed with the quality shown by the depth of the team. Players picked each other up and played some of the best team soccer of the year."
After the first half ended 0-0, The Hornets took control of the second half. Junior Dawson Prough scored twice on the night, with his first goal coming at 43:26 off an assist by Senior Gillan Alafoginis. Prough scored his second goal at 55:19 to put the Hornets up 2-0.
Wellsboro would complete the victory in the 69th minute as Senior Brieux Thibaut scored.
The Hornets out shot Northeast Bradford 16-5 and Senior Jake Mitchell recorded 4 saves in goal for his sixth shut out of the season.
"NEB is a good team with some quality players and I'm happy we were able to get the result," concluded Shaffer.
In the JV game, Wellsboro won 4-0 to improve to 3-0-2.
With the win, the Varsity team improves to 6-1 (6-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Monday, September 22 as they host Troy.
