The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team improved to 2-0 following a 2-0 shut out over Galeton on Saturday, September 6.
Through two games of the 2014 season the Hornets have yet to allow a goal.
"The boys played great tonight. Defensively they battled against a very physical and talented Galeton forward line, limiting them to only 8 shots," said head coach John Shaffer. "The team passed the ball much better tonight then on Wednesday and were unlucky to not to score a few more. We still have much to work on but winning both games this week is a great way to start the season."
The Hornets didn't find the net until midway through the game, but when they did, they struck quick.
Sophomore Josiah Hill put the Hornets up 1-0 as he scored with 40:18 showing on the clock, and Junior Dawson Prough scored off an assist from Junior Sean Dooley at 44:42 to put Wellsboro up 2-0.
From there on out, Wellsboro held Galeton scoreless and produced their second shut out of the year.
Senior Jake Mitchell made 8 saves in net for the Hornets.
In the JV game, the Hornets tied Galeton 1-1. Junior Jeshawn Paris scored the lone goal off an assist from Freshman Gabe Leach.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 2-0 (2-0 NTL). The team is back in action on Monday, September 8 as they host Northern Potter.
