The Wellsboro Varsity golf team won their first match of the year Tuesday afternoon by edging Towanda by a stroke at River Valley.
Senior Zach Bower led the Hornets on the green with a low score of 73. Junior Brett Kendrick was 2nd with 79, Senior Blair Carson was 3rd (86), Sophomore Tyler Kennedy was 4th (98), Senior Garrett Worden was 5th (113), and Sophomore Charles Graner was 6th with 131.
"This win definitely boosts our confidence," said head coach Corey Lewis. "Our number three guy, Senior Dillon King, was out because he was injured, and Tyler stepped up for us today."
Rouding out the team scores were Towanda in 2nd (337), Athens in 3rd (351), Mansfield in 4th (372), Northern Tioga in 5th (386), Northeast Bradford in 6th (393), and Sayre in 7th (437).
With the win, the Hornets are now tied with Towanda at 11-1 on the year. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 3rd as they travel to Mansfield's Corey Creek Country Club.
