The Wellsboro Varsity boys basketball team lost to Lewisburg 40-33 in the championship game of the Wellsboro Hornets Sports Booster Club Christmas Tournament.
The Hornets got down 14-5 after the first quarter and cut into Lewisburg's lead by only allowing 6 points in the second quarter to trail 20-16 at the half. After the thid Lewisburg held a slim 31-29 lead, and outscored the Hornets 9-3 in the final frame to take home the championship.
Senior Joey Doganiero was the lone Hornet in double figures with 13 points. Junior Michael Pietropola added 7, Junior Kieron Smethers had 5, and Sophomore Dawson Prough and Senior Dylan Prough had 4 points each.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 5-2. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, January 1 as they travel to Williamsport to take on St. John Neumann.
