Most people don't associate major injuries with the game of golf, but it happened to Wellsboro Monday afternoon.
After playing a few holes on the afternoon, Junior Brett Kendrick, Wellsboro's top player on the season, had his shoulder pop out of place and was forced to withdrawl from the contest. However, the Hornets were able to shoot 378 as a team pull out a three stroke victory over Towanda who shot 381.
Athens finished third on the day with 382, Mansfield was 4th (383), Northeast Bradford was 5th (426), Northern Tioga was 6th (443), and Sayre was 7th with 456.
Senior Dillan King, who missed time early in the season with a wrist injury, stepped up to fill in for Kendrick and shot a team-low 85 to help the Hornets claim victory. King's score was also good for second place overall on the day behind Athens' Zach Sitzman.
"That was very good of him to step up," head coach Corey Lewis remarked. "He's a very good player. I think if he had been healthy he would have had a shot of competing for the top score in the league."
Rounding out the rest of the Hornet finishers were Senior Blair Carson (94), Senior Zach Bower (95), Sophomore Tyler Kennedy (104), and Senior Garrett Worden (121).
With the win, the Hornets are now 29-1 (29-1 NTL) on the year. The team will be back in action on Thursday, September 19 as they travel to Mill Hall to take on Central Mountain.
