The Wellsboro Varsity boys basketball team picked up their second league win over visiting Liberty Monday night by the final score of 60-45.
The Hornets got a double-double from Junior Dylan Prough (14 points, 11 rebounds) and 15 points from Sophomore Michael Pietropola to lead the team.
Wellsboro jumped out to a 14-6 first quarter lead but the Mountaineers hung tough in the second quarter as the Hornets only led 29-19 at the half, but a 21-9 third quarter run by Wellsboro sealed the victory.
Junior Joey Doganiero added 9 points, Senior Jordan Jackson scored 7, Sophomore Kieron Smethers added five points and eight boards, Senior Matt Reese had three points, five rebounds, four steals and four assists, Freshman Dawson Prough added four points, Junior Kyler Widows had two points, and Sophomore Nick Marple rounded out the scoring with one point.
In the JV game, the Hornets pushed their win streak to three games as they beat Liberty 47-34. Dawson Prough led the team with 12 points while Sophomore Brett Kendrick and Marple each netted 11.
With the win, the Varsity team improves to 11-1 (2-0 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, January 9 as they travel to Mansfield.
